We are proud to offer you 50 years of knowledge which sets us apart from our competitors and has established the group as the leading tent manufacturer and supplier to the military, humanitarian/disaster management and global conservationist organisations, governments, game reserves, safari destinations, holiday resorts and adventurers, both locally and internationally.
Our holding company, Canvas and Tent, is a proudly South African, award-winning company including an Exporter of the Year award. What was originally a tiny company with a huge reputation, developed into a group that is a world leader in providing canvas products through an impressive global distribution network.
Worldwide, our products are designed to impress and built to last. No matter the location, terrain, climate or weather conditions, our luxury tented camps inspire awe, motive the urge to travel and have stood the test of time.
Our history
We first began designing luxury tents under the Canvas and Tent brand name. But as the business expanded, so too did our commitment to innovation, resulting in a strategic decision to diversify and create the Bushtec Safari brand in its own right.
Our initial offering was the Meru range of tents. A standard design allowing little room for customisation, we recognised a need for more variety, flexibility and creativity. As a result, our team took risks and began designing tents that were well ahead of their time and enforced our reputation as a market leader.
This inspired us to take part in a variety of international travel and tourism shows, including the annual South African-based Tourism Indaba. Each year we redefine the boundaries of good design in canvas and create something new, beautiful, functional and trendy. We won awards for most of them.
What began as a small brand manufacturing a few luxury canvas tents a year can now manufacture numerous luxury tents a day. Our dedication to product excellence and reputation for product innovation is recognised, respected, and trusted across the globe.

Custom-made, top-quality canvas and metal-work products made in Maun, Botswana. Kalahari Kanvas is a true ‘garage to global’ success story. It was established, in a garage, in 1986 as a tent repair service for safari resorts in or near the Okavango Delta and wholeheartedly supported by the industry for the quality of its work.
Growth and diversion soon followed and today, under the guidance of parent company Canvas and Tent South Africa and backing from the Botswana Government, it designs/customises, manufactures and supplies canvas products and crafted metal works to local (Botswana), African and international markets, including the UK, the USA and even Oman.
It also sells, or hires, a wide variety of camping equipment including tents, gas cylinders, braais (barbeques), cutlery & crockery, stretch cords, cooler-boxes, batteries, water bottles and even mattresses.
Kalahari Kanvas’ reputation, however, is for its bespoke products which included canvas luggage, metal work accessories, blanket lined ponchos, mosquito nets - and even elephant saddles.
It also has a flourishing upholstery department which handles everything from furniture to aeroplane seats.
